It’s time to vacuum!… Yes, that infernal gadget was kept in the storage room, behind a lot of things, with the tubes disassembled.
It is removed in a moment and nothing has to be assembled. But we already know very well that someone does their job with sand and lint as best she can. But it raises the dust, and now we have a problem with the furniture.
You have two more options, the first is to act as if the dirt did not exist, but it is not sustainable, and the second is to get a broom vacuum cleaner to clean. The house has imperfections without a traditional vacuum cleaner and broom. It fits in any corner, does not need a bag, removes dirt and dust from floors, carpets, and rugs, and is the best for removing pet hair.
The plan is clear but now comes the complicated part. Choose a quality broom vacuum cleaner that doesn’t end up in the storage room next to your old vacuum cleaner.
What you should take into account to deciding?
If the motor is at the top of the electric broom, you will be able to clean under the bed or sofa, but you will be carrying the weight in your hand. If you have problems lifting weight, choose a model with the motor down. But keep in mind that you will not be able to vacuum under objects.
Accessories are more important. The versatility of the model you choose will depend on them. You can take a look at the “Accessories” tab to make sure it includes what you need.
Not all broom vacuum cleaners are suitable for pet hair or all types of floors. In the analysis of each model, you can see what each model is valid for.
The 10 best cordless vacuum cleaners
If you take a look at the websites of manufacturers and sellers, they all sell their broom vacuum cleaners as the best, with features and designs that seem to have been designed by NASA itself. But they are not objective at all.
Here you will see useful information to choose the model that suits you best, assessing the good… and the not-so-good.
10. Taurus Ultimate Lithium broom vacuum cleaner
The lightest of the comparison, ideal for second homes, and caravans.
Feature
- Battery: 22.2v
- Autonomy: 40min
- Weight: 2Kg
- Tank: 650ml
- Charging time: 3hrs
- HEPA filter: Yes
- Noise: 78db
Editorial Review
The Taurus Ultimate Lithium does not stand out for its suction power, so why is it in comparison to the best broom vacuum cleaners? Well, because the most powerful and most expensive is not always the best for everyone.
This vacuum cleaner weighs very little, just 2 Kg. So it is a good option if you have a physical problem that prevents you from holding weight. It is very manageable (the brush rotates 180º) and practical if you are looking for a vacuum cleaner for daily cleaning maintenance.
It is a basic model and does not expect a great waste of technology or premium finishes. I would say that it is a great option if you are looking for a cheap broom vacuum cleaner for a second home or even for a motorhome (since it takes up little space).
However, the suction power will not allow you to suck up breadcrumbs, stones, or olive stones, but they will not get rid of lint, dust, and even sand. The hairs are sucked up without a problem, but they easily get tangled up in the roller.
Furthermore, it is suitable for all types of floors, including parquet. But in my experience, it is not very effective in corners. In addition, it does not stand up (parking mode).
Other important information you should know
- The battery is 2200mAh Lithium-Ion and is removable.
- The wheels are made of hard plastic, but they do not scratch the parquet.
- It has a battery status indicator.
- The HEPA filter is washable.
Pros
Cheap
It weighs very little (2Kg)
Very manageable
A good option for second homes
Washable HEPA filter
An LED light on the brush
Cons
Fair suction power
Does not stand up (parking mode)
Improvable quality of materials
9. Hoover H-FREE 100 Cordless and Handheld Broom Vacuum Cleaner
A model with a large deposit, ideal for large houses, and also at a very good price.
Feature
- Battery: 22v
- Autonomy: 20/40min
- Weight: 2.62Kg
- Tank: 900ml
- Charging time: 6hrs
- HEPA filter: Yes
- Noise: 77db
Editorial Review
If you are not very fond of technology and what you are looking for is a practical broom vacuum cleaner at a good price, you will love the Hoover H-free.
It only comes with 2 accessories. There are no tubes and brushes that then remain forever in the box. It also does not have an LCD screen, sensors, or other extras. But this makes it very easy to handle and clean since Hoover has a system they call “One Touch” that allows you to empty the tank with a single click. In addition, the roller is extracted from the side to clean it comfortably, and the filter is washable.
The Hoover H-Free is a 2-in-1, which you can disassemble to use as a handheld vacuum cleaner. Its design allows you to have all the accessories in the broom itself. It stands up (parking mode) and takes up very little space. So you can store it in any corner. It also includes a wall bracket in case you prefer to hang it. It has 2 power levels, a LED light on the brush to better see the dirt, and a LED battery level indicator.
Something that would improve in this model is the material of the wheels, which are made of very soft rubber and end up wearing out. It is not one of the most powerful, so I do not see it as a good option for long-haired carpets. But it is more than enough for normal cleaning, and the 900ml tank is one of the largest on the market. This, together with the trigger lock mode, makes it very interesting for vacuuming large surfaces.
8. Bosch Flexxo Series Cordless and handheld vacuum cleaner
Versatile and with everything integrated. In addition, it maintains constant power even with a full tank.
Feature
- Battery: 25.2V
- Autonomy: 55min
- Weight : 3 Kg
- Tank: 400ml
- Charging time: 5hrs.
- HEPA filter: Yes
- Noise: 81db
Editorial Review
A common problem in many broom vacuum cleaners is that when the tank begins to be full, performance drops. That is precisely what the Bosch Flexxo solves with its RobustAir technology, which maintains the suction power until not a speck of dust fits.
The Flexxo is a 2-in-1, and something that I love is that all the accessories are integrated into the broom itself. You can disassemble and combine what you need such as a handheld vacuum cleaner, extension tube, upholstery brush, etc. Everything at hand to clean furniture, sofas, corners, ceilings, and even the car.
It has 2 power levels, although a handheld vacuum is used only at minimum power.
The broom brush is motorized at a speed of 4600 rpm. So it is very effective on all types of floors and even carpets, but without scratching it. Of course, I do not recommend it to vacuum long-haired carpets.
This model has a motor at the bottom, which allows it to stand in parking or standing mode. But it has the disadvantage that you cannot vacuum under the bed or sofa. There is also something that does not convince me, and that is the release tank is made of plastic and must be used with care.
7. Rowenta Air Force Serenity Cordless broom vacuum cleaner
A broom vacuum cleaner with a pointed head … The terror of all the fluff in the corners!
Feature
- Battery: 25.2V
- Autonomy: 70min
- Weight: 3.02 Kg
- Tank: 600ml
- Charging time: 6hrs.
- HEPA filter: Yes
- Noise: 72db
Editorial Review
Stick vacuum cleaners have been a revolution (at least for me) in the fight against lint. But most models have an Achilles heel. The corners are where the resistant lint is entrenched. But for this problem, there are also perfect models like the Rowenta Air Force, which with its pointed brush allows you to vacuum corners, stairs, and all kinds of nooks and crannies.
This vacuum cleaner has 2 power levels, the normal one is enough for dirt, dust, grains of rice, pet hair, and even cat litter, and a turbo mode for specific moments when you need to give “a little more cane”. Keep in mind that the manufacturer specifies that the turbo does not use on carpets. So this power on carpets may not be enough for long-pile carpets.
It is suitable for all types of floors, including parquet. It is very easy to handle, since the brush rotates in any position, being able to vacuum under furniture with ease.
Although there is no HEPA filter, it does have a double filter system that reaches practically the same level of filtering as a HEPA. The brush is motorized, has an LED light, and can be removed by simply pressing a tab. It stays in parking mode (standing)
From my point of view, it is a great option if you have stairs or a lot of furniture or corners. But it has some drawbacks. It does not have a battery indicator. The tank’s tab is made of plastic, and I feel that it is fragile. It does not include accessories
6. AEG CX7-2-45AN Cordless and Handheld Vacuum Cleaner
An ideal broom vacuum cleaner to eliminate pet hair on upholstery.
Feature
- Battery: 18v
- Autonomy: 45/13min
- Weight: 2.80 Kg
- Tank: 500ml
- Charging time: 4.5 hours.
- HEPA filter: Yes
- Noise: 79db
The terror of pet hair! If you are sick of seeing how your pet’s hairs roam freely on the floor, bed, or sofas, the AEG is the perfect solution.
The AEG CX7 is a 2-in-1 as it disassembles for use as a handheld vacuum and has an 18v battery, giving it plenty of power to effectively clean all types of floors.
But what seems super original to me about this model is that it includes a brush with a pedal that activates a blade to cut the hairs, helping the broom vacuum cleaner to swallow them. This, which seems like something so simple, eliminates at a stroke the main problem that makes many vacuum cleaners incompatible with pets… hair jams. In addition, it includes another special brush to remove pet hair from upholstery.
The brush includes a LED light to better see the dirt and rotates 180º. So it can be handled effortlessly with one hand. It includes a floor charging base, and it is not necessary to drill holes to hang it. It takes up very little space.
The tank is very easy to disassemble and clean. But if you are allergic, you should bear in mind that when you empty it, the dust is exposed in the filter. The 500ml capacity is not one of the largest, so you have to empty it frequently.
Although, you can also use it on carpets. I have to admit that it does not seem like the best option for this purpose. It is not that it is not worth it, but there are better options. In addition, it is not suitable for vacuuming liquids and it is not one of the most comfortable for vacuuming under the bed or sofa (since the motor is at the bottom).
5. Philips Speedpro FC6723/01 – Cordless vertical handheld vacuum cleaner
An all-in-1 broom vacuum cleaner that is used for carpets and all types of floors.
Feature
- Battery: 18v
- Autonomy: 30/15min
- Weight: 2.43 Kg
- Tank: 400ml
- Charging time: 5 hours.
- HEPA filter: Yes
- Noise: 80db
Editorial Review
The Philips SpeedPro is a cordless vacuum cleaner suitable for all types of floors, such as parquet, marble, stoneware, and wood. It works very well on carpets, both short and long hair (without fear of breaking them).
It has 2 power levels, the lowest is sufficient for cleaning sand, dust, or dirt, and the highest sucks pet hair and even long hair without problems. Even though they can get tangled in the rotating brush, they do not. They get stuck and are easily removed, as this brush is very easy to disassemble.
The Speedpro is well made, the handheld vacuum detaches from the tube with the push of a button. The extension tube includes a brush on the back to clean while vacuuming lamps, furniture, or the ceiling itself. The tank is completely removable and washed together with the filter under the tap. In addition, it has an LED light, and the brush rotates 180º, which makes it much easier to vacuum stairs and corners.
If you are looking for an all-in-one with which to vacuum the sofa, carpets, floors, and even under the bed, this broom vacuum cleaner will meet your expectations. It is true, that I miss details that I consider improbable, such as the 400ml tank being a bit short for me. It does not stand up (parking mode), so you have to leave it supported or on its base.
An ideal broom vacuum cleaner if there are people with allergies or respiratory problems, thanks to its 5-stage HEPA filter.
Feature
- Battery: 22.2v
- Autonomy: 60/40/10min
- Weight: 2.4 Kg
- Tank: 400ml
- Charging time: 3hrs
- HEPA filter: YES
- Noise: 73db
Roidmi is a brand of broom vacuum cleaner that belongs to Xiaomi. The F8 Storm Pro is the improved version of the F8 Storm, but with more suction power and more resistant materials. The previous model has been one of the best sellers in the market, and this one is going the same way.
The motor of this model reaches 110,000rpm, providing this broom vacuum cleaner with great suction power (23500PA), very similar to plugged-in sled vacuum cleaners or the almighty Dyson v8. It also has a battery for a while, lasting up to 60 minutes (at low speed).
The quality of the Roidmi is noticeable from the moment you open the box. I have had the same feeling when I open a high-end smartphone. All the parts are perfectly assembled and there are no gaps or defects. The anti-mite brush for upholstery has also caught my attention, which leaves sofas or mattresses as good as new (it makes pet hair disappear in a single pass).
The brush is motorized and includes an LED light with a light sensor. So it turns on automatically only when necessary. It also has a safety system that blocks the vacuum cleaner if, for any reason, the dust gets into the engine compartment.
It has Bluetooth and can be connected to a smartphone to control some parameters in the app. Although from my point of view in this aspect it has a lot to improve since I only see the option to save the vacuum power as interesting. So as not to have to be selecting it every time you turn it on.
3. Xiaomi Mi G10 broom vacuum cleaner
One of the most complete on the market, with a filtering system that is more like an air purifier than a vacuum cleaner, and also at a price that is hard to believe.
Feature
- Battery: 25.2v
- Autonomy: 65min
- Weight: 3.7Kg
- Tank: 600ml
- Charging time: 3.5h
- Noise: 79db
Vacuum brooms started as simple vacuum cleaners with a button to turn them on and off. But when you try the latest Xiaomi model, you realize how much they have evolved.
There is so much technology in this model. It is difficult to condense it in an analysis like this. The Xiaomi Mi G10 brush includes sensors to detect dirt and height differences. It has a V-shaped design, which prevents hair from getting tangled in the rollers.
A large LED touchscreen occupies the entire back and on it. You can see the battery level, control the vacuum mode, and the lock button for continuous operation.
The autonomy is not bad at all, since it reaches 65 minutes in ECO mode. It has 3 operating modes such as eco, standard, and turbo, and includes a mop to clean. If you are not interested in the mop, you have the Xiaomi Mi G9.
All this is very good, but two things make the difference in this model for me:
- The battery is removed with a click, and the base includes a charger for an extra battery. That is, you can charge a spare battery at the same time you charge the broom, or you can charge it while you use it and exchange them if you run out with a simple click.
- The filtering system is similar to that of an air purifier, with 5 stages, including a HEPA H13 filter protected by a dust separation system, which is also washable. For me, it is the best broom vacuum cleaner for allergy sufferers.
And what I don’t like? Well, I miss the LED light in the brush, plus the extra battery has to be bought separately.
2. CECOTEC CONGA ROCKSTAR 900
One of the most powerful electric brooms on the market, and with a large battery. Ideal for both large homes.
Feature
- Battery: 29.6v
- Autonomy: 90min
- Weight : 3 Kg
- Tank: 600ml
- Charging time: 2 hours.
- HEPA filter: Yes
- Noise: 88db
The first thing I thought when this model came into my hands was: “what an imagination the person who gave it its name has. We’ll see if its effectiveness lives up to the name”.
The Conga RockStar has 4 operating modes (eco, medium, turbo, and auto), of which the one that seems most interesting to me is auto. It is based on “intelligent technology” to adapt the suction power to the type of soil or dirt, which allows the battery to be extended.
This model is a 2-in-1 since the head is removed to use as a handheld vacuum cleaner. It includes accessories for boring (no less than 9), making it very versatile. On the back, it has an LCD screen that gives information on the operating mode and battery level. You can even see the suction level and other recommendations or alerts.
I would say that, in power, this vacuum cleaner is practically at the level of Dyson. But it is evident that in the quality of materials and finishes it falls far behind. It is noticeable, for example, when exchanging accessories, since it is difficult to fit them. In addition, the great power and autonomy of this broom vacuum cleaner do not come for free. So it is easy to deduce that it is not one of the lightest in the comparison. However, if you don’t mind supporting its 3 kilos in your hands, and you are not going to use it intensively, the RockStar Conga is a highly recommended model.
This vacuum cleaner is available in 3 versions: Basic, Ergoflex, and Ergowet.
1. Dyson V15 broom vacuum cleaner
The most powerful and versatile broom vacuum cleaner on the market. The best broom vacuum cleaner, but also the one with the highest price.
Feature
- battery:v
- Autonomy: 60min
- Weight: 3.1Kg
- Tank: 770ml
- Charging time: 4.5hrs
- HEPA filter: YES
- Noise: dB
The 6 best broom vacuum cleaners
There is no “best broom vacuum cleaner for everyone”, since depending on your needs, one model may be better than another. Below you can see the ranking of the 6 best broom vacuum cleaners, the most popular for each type of use.
1. The best price-quality broom vacuum cleaner: ROIDMI F8 Lite
Finding a powerful, versatile, and functional broom vacuum cleaner for less than 200 dollars is not an easy task. The ROIDMI F8 Lite meets all the expectations of routine vacuuming. It has a fairly reasonable price if we compare it with that of this type of small mid-range appliance.
The Lite version of this popular Xiaomi vacuum cleaner is nothing to write home about, but it does what it promises. Indeed, you may not get an impeccable result with the first pass, but with the second pass, you will! If you are willing to lower the bar a bit and adjust to some small limitations in terms of engine power ( 80,000 rpm ), this is a good solution for cleaning your home.
Also, for that price, it is almost unbelievable. It has a 4-stage HEPA filtering system, that you can quickly transform into a handheld vacuum, or that includes numerous accessories. As a model of access to broom vacuum cleaners, it is the one that offers the most without shooting up the budget.
2. The best cheap broom vacuum cleaner: Cecotec Conga Popstar 2900 ErgoFlex
Within the low-end models of broom vacuum cleaners, this Cecotec proposal surprises for more than just its price. It is a cyclonic vacuum cleaner without a cable, without a bag. It has three operating modes with a cost of fewer than 100 dollars.
But some details are only good appearances. Its ergonomic design for use as an upright, handheld, and broom vacuum is anything but practical. With a weight of almost 4 kilos, its use is quite limited. The articulated arm is designed to suck up dirt under furniture, but with its volume and difficult handling, it takes a lot of skill to achieve this goal.
However, not everything is negative. The Popstar 2900 ErgoFlex Conga offers good autonomy ( up to 60 minutes ), a large tank capacity ( 0.8 liters ), and three functions ( ECO, Turbo, and Brush OFF ) to better adapt to the demands of each cleaning. It is an ideal model if you are looking for a good and cheap broom vacuum cleaner.
3. The best cordless stick vacuum: Dyson V11 Torque Drive Extra
The possibilities of this Dyson are very well compensated. It offers a 0.76-liter tank and a motor that reaches 125,000 rpm. It has an efficient filtering system that removes 99.97% of dirt particles. All this in a wireless and easy-to-use device that weighs less than 3 kilos and is capable of slipping into any corner.
All that would be of little use if you had to keep an eye on the battery. Don’t worry about time, it has three operating modes that provide a range of 60 minutes.
To complete these great features, the Dyson V11 comes with seven accessories that allow you to comfortably clean on different types of floors: hard, parquet, carpets, and upholstery.
If you had to find a fault with such versatility, it is the noise it makes: 82 dB that will be the nightmare of your neighbors on Sunday mornings.
4. Best broom vacuum for pets: Dyson V8 Animal Pro
In general, Dyson designs always play in another league. This superiority over conventional broom vacuum cleaners is specifically designed for cleaning homes with pets.
The Dyson V8 Animal Pro is very similar to its predecessor, the V7. But with three notable differences: it has up to 15% more suction power (350 watts), offers more autonomy (up to 40 minutes ), and is better prepared to vacuum the lint of animals.
To efficiently meet this objective, it comes equipped with a large motorized brush with rollers capable of collecting hair without tangles. It has a 0.54-liter tank. So, unless you have a pet polar bear, you will have no problem completing the house cleaning without having to constantly empty the vacuum cleaner.
You can see more options in our article on the best broom vacuums for pets.
5. The best broom vacuum cleaner for parquet: Tineco iFloor 3
It is easy to beat the laziness of cleaning at home with a broom vacuum cleaner like this one. Tineco iFloor 3 is a mopping vacuum cleaner that allows you to vacuum and clean in half the time. What a great invention!
In addition, as its head includes a self-cleaning lined roller brush, it is perfectly compatible with use on more delicate surfaces such as parquet, vinyl, linoleum, or laminate floors.
Not only does it treat these more delicate surfaces with care, but it also leaves them shinier than if you cleaned them with a mop and bucket. This is since its brushless digital motor acts against the most encrusted dirt, combining wet cleaning with suction and facilitating rapid drying of the surface, so as not to leave a trace.
6. The lightest stick vacuum cleaner: Taurus Ultimate Digital
Aspects such as the weight of a vacuum cleaner leave no room for interpretation. The Taurus Ultimate Digital deserves the title of lightest stick vacuum cleaner because it only weighs 2 kilos. It is a difficult feature to beat in this category of vacuum devices.
What I liked the most is that this lightness does not at all compromise other aspects that seem essential to me in a cordless broom vacuum cleaner, such as the autonomy of up to 200 m2 of cleaning without question. A 0.5-liter capacity tank, and an efficient brushless motor that runs at 80,000 rpm.
If you’re going to be moving around areas with stairs or planning to clean vertically, your biceps will thank you that this 380-watt power vacuum offers you so many options with so little weight.
Still don’t know which vacuum broom to buy? Here is our buying guide
Although broom vacuum cleaners have been on the market for more than a decade, it is not until now that they have begun to position themselves as an alternative to traditional sled vacuum cleaners and robot vacuum cleaners.
And is that, in the beginning, these devices were discarded for not having good power and autonomy, today they are not only capable of offering a great suction capacity, but they are also characterized by their ease of use, lightness, and low volume.
Undoubtedly, these properties make vertical vacuum cleaners fast, versatile, and comfortable tools that make our lives easier.
Even then, with the wide variety of existing models and brands, buying a cordless vacuum cleaner becomes a challenge. In this buying guide, we are going to satisfy your doubts and answer all the questions you may have about these appliances.
What is a broom vacuum cleaner?
If there is a tool that is not lacking in any home, it is a broom to clean the floor. Although we all know the disadvantages of its use entails, especially for allergy sufferers. When sweeping the floor, we raise many dust particles that are deposited in the rest of the surfaces in the room, this leads to cleaning results that are not the most efficient or the healthiest.
Cordless broom vacuum cleaners eliminate this problem since we are talking about a small appliance that allows us to clean the dust from different surfaces in our homes in a very comfortable and efficient way.
These devices resemble a manual broom (hence their name), characterized by their low volume and lightness. They have a very compact vertical design and, generally, their handle is foldable, these characteristics make this type of vacuum cleaner especially useful for people whose homes are small and do not need to clean large surfaces or for those who do not have enough storage space.
Corded or cordless stick vacuum cleaner?
Upright vacuum cleaners are sold with or without a cord.
- A corded broom vacuum cleaner offers greater suction power but has the drawback that it does not allow freedom of movement as you have to have a plug nearby to be able to use it.
- Cordless broom vacuum cleaners, despite their lower power and limited autonomy, are preferred by most consumers as they facilitate cleaning by allowing total freedom of movement and, consequently, greater manageability and ease of use.
Types of cordless broom vacuum cleaners
All cordless upright vacuum cleaners have 2 features in common: they are bagless and they work with a lithium battery, hence their small size.
However, there are three well-differentiated types. The performance differs depending on the features they offer. Let’s look at each of them and their advantages and disadvantages.
- Vertical vacuum cleaners 1 in 1: We could consider that they are the alternative to sled vacuum cleaners. They are recommended for cleaning rugs and carpets or any type of hard floor. Also, among their advantages, we must highlight their ergonomics, low weight, and ease of storage. Regarding their performance, although they are the ones that offer the best results on the floor, their main drawback is that they are less versatile since they are not suitable for cleaning furniture, upholstery, and raised surfaces.
- 2-in-1 cordless broom vacuum cleaners: These models are indicated for quick cleaning. The main difference with the previous model is that they offer greater functionality and versatility since they can be used as a handheld vacuum cleaner. But one factor considers is that these models seek to offer a more compact and lighter design and consequently have less power and autonomy, which makes them lose some efficiency. In addition, their tank is usually smaller.
- Dyson-type cordless vacuum cleaners: These are the most recent models. Although brands such as Bosch and Philips have an increasing presence in the market, Dyson is the maximum reference for this type of vacuum cleaner. Dyson-type vertical vacuum cleaners are characterized by offering all the features that can be found in these devices: speed, autonomy, ease of use, power, and comfort. Their great versatility and lightness make them very comfortable to handle and lift with one hand. Also, they are suitable for cleaning all types of surfaces.
Which vacuum cleaner to choose: a broom, a sled, or a robot vacuum cleaner?
Now that we know what they are and the types of cordless upright vacuum cleaners, let’s see how they differ from a sled vacuum cleaner and a robot vacuum cleaner.
The three types of vacuum cleaners fulfill the same cleaning function and we cannot say that there is a better model than another, they simply have different uses. Therefore, in order not to make a mistake in the choice, it is important to start by defining the existing cleaning needs or the use that is going to be given to this appliance.
Sled vacuum cleaner
They are the traditional vacuum cleaners and although they are the least ergonomic; they stand out for offering great suction power and for including many accessories that facilitate cleaning on all types of surfaces and areas that are difficult to access.
These vacuum cleaners are indicated for cleaning large surfaces or for homes where there are carpets or many rugs.
Due to their power, they are the ones that offer the deepest cleaning results, but they have the disadvantage of a heavier and bulkier design that makes them more uncomfortable to handle and more difficult to transport and store.
If you decide on a sled model, I would advise you to opt for a bagless vacuum cleaner, as they are more practical than bagged vacuum cleaners, and you avoid the hassle and additional expense of bag replacements.
Vacuum cleaner robot
They are the most comfortable to use since you only have to press a button for them to start working automatically, cleaning quickly and easily while we dedicate ourselves to other tasks. They are recommended for those who have little time but want efficient results in the daily cleaning of their home.
Similarly, these models stand out for offering navigation, timer, or even scrubbing functions in the more advanced models.
As a disadvantage, they are not suitable for cleaning sofas or the interior of the car (for this purpose there are specific car vacuum cleaners), nor are they the most efficient in cleaning corners.
What aspects should you consider before choosing a broom vacuum cleaner?
If you have already decided that a vertical cordless vacuum cleaner is the most suitable device to satisfy your cleaning needs, now it is time to review the points that you cannot lose sight of so that it offers you the results that you expect from it.
Power
This value is the first to consider since it is the one that will determine the effectiveness of the device you purchase. To know it, it is necessary to analyze three different terms:
- Motor Power: This point represents the power consumption of the device and is indicated in watts. That the vacuum cleaner does not have to imply that it has a great suction capacity since this will depend on its efficiency. The device transforms the motor power into suction power.
- Suction power: It is the value that determines the cleaning capacity of the vacuum cleaner when it is completely clean. At this point, most manufacturers usually speak qualitatively, that is, they give us “great suction power” as a reference. Those manufacturers that specify it do so using different parameters:
- Air Watts: This parameter indicates the watts the appliance uses to transport one unit of air from the nozzle to the reservoir. It should not be confused with the dry watts since this value indicates the energy consumption of the device and not its suction capacity.
- Kilopascals: The force creates a vacuum that allows the device to suck. So another measure used to measure suction power is pascals. This value indicates the pressure exerted by the force of one Newton on a surface of one square meter.
- Real suction power: This parameter refers to the real performance of the vacuum cleaner during use and factors such as the filtering system, the head model, the motor power, or the design of the device’s body are involved. Generally, manufacturers indicate the maximum suction power, but this is not entirely true since it is normal for losses to occur through the union joints or due to the progressive deterioration caused by dirt and use.
Accessories
In short, depending on your cleaning needs, you should consider the number of accessories that the vacuum cleaner includes. If you only want to vacuum carpets and floors, a basic model with a brush and an extension tube will be more than enough.
On the other hand, if you want a device to carry out deeper cleaning (cleaning dust, trunks, high or difficult-to-access areas, and upholstery…) you will have to invest in a high-end broom vacuum cleaner since these models are the ones that include a great variety of accessories that simplify the cleaning task: elbows, furniture nozzles, upholstery brush, wall bracket, etc. If you have a dog or cat, you should choose a pet hair vacuum cleaner, with specific accessories for animal hair.
Design
We are already clear that ergonomics, lightness, and wireless condition are the main characteristics of these devices. For them to offer these qualities, you will have to look at the design and the materials.
The broom vacuum cleaners need to be continuously manipulated to change the accessories or to empty the tank, so you should pay attention to both the manufacturing materials (aluminum the high-end ones, and the cheapest plastic) and the anchors, which must be resistant to guarantee the durability of the product.
As far as design is concerned, to make them easy to handle with one hand, the ideal is for them to have a robust line but not to exceed 3 kg in weight.
The mid/high range models also have an articulated tube and an LED light on the brush that maximizes the cleaning task.
Autonomy
Leaving aside the fact that the duration of all the batteries decreases over time, if you don’t want your cleaning sessions to end halfway, the autonomy of the device is another feature that you should keep in mind.
We can find some high-end models that can offer an autonomy of up to 90 minutes, but the most common is that most vertical vacuum cleaners offer an autonomy range between 30 and 60 minutes.
In any case, this data is always in the lowest suction power mode. Furthermore, when turning the vacuum cleaner into the maximum power mode, these values are considerably reduced.
It is also convenient to check the loading times. If the battery runs out during cleaning, a model that recharges as quickly as possible will always be recommended. In the same way, it is advisable to opt for those broom vacuum cleaners whose battery is removable, so you can replace it or have a spare one that allows you to increase the time of use of the device.
Cyclone technology
It is a system that uses the centrifugal force of the air current that circulates inside the device to separate the particles and dirt contained in the sucked air that is subsequently retained inside the tank.
The smallest particles that escape at this first level are trapped in the microfilters that the system itself incorporates, so that the expelled air goes through a new filter, ending up coming out clean.
Tank and filter
To achieve greater lightness and ergonomics, broom vacuum cleaners sacrifice the size of the tank and, since manufacturers recommend emptying it after use, this element must be robust, easy to handle, and clean.
As for the filters, these must be effective enough to retain dust and dirt particles before the air is expelled through the device again. This point is of special interest for all those people who suffer from some type of respiratory or allergic problem, in these cases, it is advisable to choose a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter since they are the ones that achieve the effectiveness of 99.97% when it comes to retaining particles equal to or greater than 0.3 microns in diameter.
Noise
In general, these vacuum cleaners are quite silent, but if the noise bothers you, you should make sure that it does not exceed 80 dB. From this value, the vacuum cleaner is already considered noisy.
What broom vacuum do you need?
Broom vacuum cleaners incorporate a universal brush suitable for cleaning all types of floors, but in many situations, it may not be enough. Below you can see a series of tips so that you can choose the appropriate device according to your cleaning needs.
If you have animals at home
The universal brush will be able to pick up your pet’s hair from hard surfaces.
Another issue is that it does it with the same effect on the most complicated surfaces such as sofas or carpets. To guarantee good cleaning results, the broom vacuum cleaner you choose must have a turbo brush or a special roller to collect hair.

If you are allergic
Previously, we have already mentioned that HEPA filters are the most effective in retaining the smallest particles (hair, pollen, mites…). So for anyone who suffers from any respiratory or allergic problem, the recommendation is to opt for an anti-mite broom vacuum cleaner or one that incorporates this filtering system.
Similarly, the vacuum cleaner must have a good suction capacity, since this will be the only way to remove the smallest particles that can be found in the area to be cleaned.
You should also consider that the maintenance and cleaning of the filters are very easy to do. Dirty filters will prevent the device from vacuuming properly and allergens will still be present in the air.

If you have parquet
Although the universal brush can clean the parquet well, the dust can remain embedded in the grooves, which is why a specific brush is sometimes necessary to carry out a good cleaning on this type of surface.
This accessory does not usually come as standard. It is a brush with a narrow design that is specially optimized for this type of floor and protects it from scratches.
If you have rugs
In this case, you will not only need a device that offers you great suction power, but it must also have a battery with great autonomy that allows you to put it to work at full capacity.
Many models include a specific accessory for soft floors, carpets, and rugs that with fewer passes achieve better cleaning results than the universal brush. It is a turbo brush with a rotating design and bristles that favor the collection of hair or other particles that are trapped in the fabric of the carpet.
If what you want is to remove stains on carpets or upholstery, the best option is a vacuum cleaner or extraction injection vacuum cleaner like the ones you can see here.
