In every kitchen, there is an essential that is often not taken into account. Which is a key piece in the composition of your new kitchen and, especially, of the countertop: the kitchen sink.
There are many types of kitchen sinks for your kitchen, but to choose the right sink, you have to take into account different aspects:
- The space available in the kitchen
- The material with which the kitchen is made
- The type of countertop to be placed
Today, we are going to write about some aspects that should be analyzed before choosing or replacing the sink in your new kitchen.
TYPES OF SINKS
The first decision is to choose the type of sink. This will be closely linked to the materials of the sink and the kitchen countertop.
The most common types that exist are:

It is recommended for wood and laminate countertops and, in addition, there are stainless steel, glass, and synthetic.
SINK SIZES AND SHAPES
The next choice should be the one related to the shape of the sink since it will vary depending on the space available and the layout of the kitchen.
Round and single-bowl sinks are the most appropriate for small kitchens, as they help to optimize space, while corner sinks with two bowls and a built-in drainer allows you to take advantage of dead zones in the corners.
We must also take into account when choosing a sink with a drainer on which side we want to place it. What must be taken into account is that there must always be a minimum of 60 centimeters between the plate and it.
KITCHEN SINK MATERIAL
The material you choose for your kitchen sink will influence its scratch and impact resistance, as well as the retention of more or less lime, as we explain below.
Stainless steel sink
It is the material that offers the most resistance against impacts but, in turn, is the most vulnerable to being scratched and limescale.
Another feature that differentiates it from other types is its ease of cleaning.
Glass sink
Both scratch resistance and limescale tolerance are average. In addition, it offers a greater weakness against impact, but it is a very hygienic material. Its surface prevents products from penetrating its surface.
Synthetic sink
It is the best option for its high resistance to scratching, low retention of lime, and remarkable resistance to shocks. Other advantages in favor of this material are that it withstands temperatures of up to 280 degrees and is available in a wide variety of colors.
SINK ACCESSORIES
Once you have chosen the type of sink for your new kitchen, it can be complemented with some accessories that extend its features, such as:
- Drainer basket. It is used to wash fruits and vegetables and drain them comfortably. This usually fits perfectly in the sink and can be stored after use.
- Decorative non-slip. In addition to decorating, it is excellent for preventing glass cups and glasses from slipping and breaking easily.
- Additional bucket for the scourer. This element for sinks allows you to have scourers and rags at hand. But, if it is made of stainless steel or plastic, there is no chance of rust when it comes into contact with water.
